1. One way of training your ear to recognize seventh chords and triads is through emotions. Every triad and seventh chord has a different emotional feel to it. For example the major triad brings out a happy emotion as it is bright and the major 7th chord has a pop song feeling to it.

2. Another way is to stick to the middle keys of the piano because as you go lower for instance, the keys get more heavier thus whatever is played is not quite clear hence becomes hard to distinguish the triads and seventh chords hence will give the student a harder time training the ear.

1. Lack of concentration thus they are not able to hear what is being played. 

2. Background noise which makes the aural dictation not clear hence the student is not able to hear what is being played hence it becomes hard to recognize the triads and 7th chords.

3. The students may not be familiar with the triads and seventh chords hence makes it difficult for them to recognize the triads and seventh chords.

4. Students at times tend to ignore the inversions of triads and seventh chords hence when attending an aural session it becomes difficult for them to identify inverted chords when they are played.

5. Students tend to cram rather than  understand the concept and therefore when it gets to an aural session, they tense up hence they forget.
