1. Disorders in which diets are recommended in consistency include:
•diarrhoea -in severe cases it is administered gradually after a liquid diet
• Irritable bowel syndrome -soft non-irritable foods with high fluid intake
--The Oks include; orange juices,banana,thinly sliced beef,mashed potatoes, finely sliced vegetables, soft cookies. Where as,the rejects are any foods with seeds and nuts, fruits with tough skin, tough meat ,hard chewy candy, popcorn and dried fruits.

Foods to recommend on a diet with modified consistency;
Clear liquid diets ; provides oral fluids to prevent dehydration and relieve thirst, provide electrolytes and calories that require minimal digestion.
Disorders include : preoperative and post operative patients, abdominal surgery patients on recovery phase and patients on bowel preparation prior to diagnostic visualisation or surgery.
Full liquid diets; provide nourishment in liquid form and facilitates digestion and optimal utilisation of nutrients in acute ill patients who are unable to chew or swallow certain foods.
Disorders include: Post operative patients, acute oesophageal disorders , acute gastrointestinal disorders, surgery of face-neck or dental or jaw wiring.
Blended diet(Thick liquid diet): provide adequate calories ,protein and fluid for patients unable to chew ,swallow or digest solid foods.
Disorders include:After oral surgery or plastic surgery on neck or face, acutely ill oesophageal and stomach disorders unable to tolerate solid foods, patients to week to tolerate general diet, those patients whom a light diet have been indicated, those progressing from full liquid diet to general diet and those whose dentition is too poor to handle foods in general diet.
Foods to recommend on a fibre modified diet
Fibre restricted diet; Foods containing low amounts of fibre which leave relatively little residue for formation of fecal matter and prevents blockage of an inflamed GI tract and reduce frequency and volume of fecal matter.
Disorders include;GIT disorders,Colitis,Colostomy,Inflamatory bowel disease, diarrhoea,Acute phase diverticulosis, ulcerative colitis in initial stage, partial intestinal obstruction and post perennial suturing.
High fibre diet; have large amounts of fibre that can't be digested and prevents constipation and slows development of haemorrhoids.
Disorders include :GIT disorders, diverticular disease , cardiovascular diseases, cancer, diabetes mellitus and weight reduction.
Disorders you can recommend carbohydrate diet
High carbohydrate diet:Carbohydrate diet provides energy value above the total energy requirement per day.
Disorders include:Hyperthyroidism, wasting, Typhoid, Malaria, HIV/AIDS and all cases of prolonged degenerative illnesses.

Conditions that need modified diet
1. Hypertension
Potassium is important for
fluid balance.
muscle contraction.
maintenance of a normal heart beat
2. Heart disease
At the root of the cause for heart attacks is a disease called “arteriosclerosis,” which is the accumulation of cholesterol, fatty deposits, and other substances on the inner lining of artery walls. This buildup narrows arteries until they become so clogged, blood cannot flow through. This can result in death or damage to part of the heart muscle; a heart attack thus cholesterol should be limited.
3. Osteoporosis
It results in a shortening and weakening of the long bones and greatly increases a woman’s susceptibility to fractures. This loss of calcium accelerates in women after menopaus, thus one should have increase calcium intake if with this condition
Disorders that Fibre diet is highly recommended
1.Hear diseases
Maintaining a healthy, fiber-rich diet can improve the condition of your heart. Choosing a variety of grains, especially whole grains, as well as fruit and vegetables, can lessen your chance of heart disease.
2.colon cancer
Eating a variety of fruits, vegetables and whole grains, which are high in fiber and antioxidants, play a role in cancer prevention and ease the replication of already existing cancer cells
3. Chronic constipation
Adding fiber to your daily diet increases the weight of your stool, which allows the stool to speed up its passage through the intestines.
4.Duodenal ulcer
Vitamin and fiber rich fruits, vegetables and whole grains help the body heal the ulcer.Conditions that need modified diet

fat-modified diet
Heart diseases and cancer are linked to diets high in fat. too little fat cause increased stress, anxiety and low self esteem.
diseases that require low fat include;
irritable bowel syndrome
ulcers
flatulence
carbohydrate diets;
malabsorption syndrome
crohns disease
diverticular disease
fiber modified diets; restricted fiber diet
crohn disease
ulcerative colitis
bowel obstruction
infectious gastrointestinal disease
post-abdominal surgery.
high fiber diet;
colon cancer
chronic constipation
irritable bowel syndrome
duodenal ulcer.
diet modified in consistency;
oropharyngeal dysphagia - require foods that are pureed, homogenous and cohesive. they are moist and soft textured and easily form bolus.
foods recommended include lean meat,rice,eggs
avoid caffeinated and carbonated beverages , avoid fibrous food, too much fat and spices
